Safety tip

What to do in the first 60 seconds of an emergency

5 min read

The first minute decides a lot. A calm, simple sequence helps more than any single clever move. Here is one you can remember.

Get to a safer spot if you can

If moving is safe, put distance or a door between you and the problem. If it is not safe to move, stay still and quiet.

Raise the alarm without being seen

A panic alarm is often raised in a room or a vehicle with the threat still there. One press is all it takes, and it makes no sound and shows nothing on your screen. Your live location goes to your circle at once.

Do not try to be heard if you cannot be

Calling out or making a call can put you at more risk when the threat is present. Let the alarm do the talking. The people in your circle see where you are and can come or send help, and on a paid plan they are reached by SMS if a notification cannot get through.

Mark yourself safe when it passes

When you are out of the moment, let your circle know you are safe so they can stand down. A clear all is as important to them as the first alarm.
